Who is this course for?

This course has been developed to give the students the required knowledge to be able to successfully carry out air purity testing in compressed air working industries.

Aims and Objectives

This unit aims to reflect the national occupational standard, BS EN 12021 Respiratory Protective Devices – Compressed Air for Breathing Apparatus (BSi), ensuring that air is being used in compressed air breathing apparatus systems is free from contaminants and will not cause harm to those using the equipment.

Failure to do so could lead to a fine of £20,000- or two years imprisonment.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to;

  • Understand the human respiratory system and the effects of contaminants
  • State the frequencies at which air purity testing should be carried out
  • Understand the contaminants to be checked for
  • State the PPE to be worn when testing air purity
  • Test for air purity using the MSA/Draeger equipment
